There are literally millions of blogs out there on every niche imaginable. Google has a separate search engine called google blogs search where you just type the niche / keyword and it will come up with blogs in the search results. Most of you know that by default comments on the blogs are set to no-follow that is it will not pass link juice back to your site as far as search engines are concerned. But I still follow this old of commenting on my blogs because of a few reasons.
Traffic from Blog Comments
Believe it or not you do get traffic from commenting on other people’s blogs. The trick is to be the first one to comment. I use a small tool called feedreader. What this tool does is notifies me in real time whenever there is a new article posted in any of the blogs that I have selected. So if my niche is DSLRs then I will simply add urls of all the blogs in myy niche to this simple rss tool and it will notify me in real time whenever there is a new post. This allows me to be the first one to comment on the target blog. Imagine there are 10s and 100s of comments but yours is on the top right below the end of the article giving you more exposure and some traffic.
Make sure to provide some value and dont spam. If you have nothing important to say about the topic and you are still commenting then dont expect great results. Insightful comments can result into loyal followers and subscribers. This is more important than gaining traffic.
Backlinks from Blog Comments
Not all blogs are created equal and hence not all blogs have nofollow in the comments section. But lets take a look at this from an SEO point of view. Google expects us to conduct our link building in a natural manner. So we are buying links, we are not spamming links and we dont ave control over who links to our site and why. In that case a more natural linking structure would be when you have got links from both do follow and no-follow sites. Does it now makes sense commenting on no-follow blogs in order to make our link building activities look more natural and organic ?
Engaging Your Readers
I am not talking about commenting on other blogs this time but replying to comments on your blog. Whenever someone leaves a comment on your blog, make it a point to reply to it at the earliest. And if its a question then answer it properly. Research on the matter more if need be. A great way is to ask user opinions and readers’ suggestions at the end of each blogpost to encourage engagement. The more time they spend on their blog the better it is for you.
Keyword Ranking Strategy
I was recently reading an article at problogger and read this guest post by Jonathan Solis. He was able to rank one of his blogposts by replying to his comments with keyword targeted comments making it even more search engine friendly. This is again in respect to posting comments on your own blogs and responding to readers’ queries.
Blog commenting still works and will continue to work. With google giving more preference to user generated content, the importance of commenting on blogs cannot be ignored. Make sure to make it worth it. Dont Spam !!
