Google Reader Shutting Down – Another Blow for Feedburner Users

freetrial125x125 Google Reader Shutting Down Another Blow for Feedburner Users

Some time back we had discussed on how google is shutting down its services one by one. We saw how google decided to close its twitter account for feedburner. Sometime later we also saw how google closed their feedburner api services for the same. We also later saw a unique and simple to use feedburner alternative that the internet fraternity has come to love and respect.

Today we will witness the end of google reader, the popular rss syndication reader that people have been using to consume content on their various devices. Subscribers are in for a bitter wake up call. Google announced today that they will be shutting down the popular RSS tool on July 1st, 2013. This is sad but lets take a look at our alternatives.

Importing your google reader feeds

First thing you need to do is to import it manually the hard way using Google Takeout.

Click the “create archive” button to build your file with all your feeds, star items and everything in between. Then simply download it. When you are finished downloading the zip file, simply extract its contents and you will find the subscriptions.xml file which should contain all your feeds.

So here comes the real question for the internet marketers of all sorts – Is this not another nail in the coffin for google feedburner ? Is it not time to move on to an alternative. Should we wait for google’s official announcement before making the jump ? Should we not start taking our thousands and millions of readers more seriously. After all subscribers are the lifeblood of all blogs. I say it is time to move on to feedblitz like many others in the industry have already done.

I have been testing the feedblitz services ever since I wrote about them few weeks ago and give them kudos for making such an easy to use service available at such affordable cost. Click here for my initial review and I suggest to try their services asap before we hear another announcement from the almighty Big G !!
