Sometime back I posted on how I am undertaking a journey of building 20 authority blogs and monetizing it using amazon associates program and the Kindle Direct Publishing platform. As Kabenlah Cudjoe pointed out these are impossible goals.
Starting small and taking it up form there is perhaps the one of the keys to success. I have now reaccessed everything and decided against it. That does not mean that I will be dropping off the project entirely but what it means is that I am going to take things more slowly now.
Instead of going for 20 authority blogs at once, I am now focusing on building one at a time. Building authority blogs is not easy but I believe you can handle a few if you focus enough. The trick here is to fill the void. See what others are complaining about, what other are missing, do surveys and fill the void. Being a copycat will make you just that – a copycat. Whats the value in that.
A smaller and more manageable number is perhaps 3. So I will take it from there. Start with 3 and take it from there. The first is already on its way and 2 more will be launched in the coming month.
So here are the common mistakes that people like me and you make when setting goals:
Setting Unrealistic Goals
They say everywhere that you should set big goals and though this is true you should not set unrealistic goals that are just to big to be achievable. Instead go for something that is more real and doable. Setting too big goals will only demoralize you when you fail to achieve them.
It also results in fewer opportunities. Easy to achieve goals are more realistic and converts to success which ultimately leads to new higher goals. It translates to success and boosts motivation giving you more reasons to celebrate. I made this mistake and I am not too proud of it either but hey, we are here to learn and not just earn. Making a mistake is one thing but not improving upon it is a disaster. Avoid.
Too Distant a Future
I am not saying to not plan for the future but what I am trying to say is to break your goals into smaller goals. Instead setting goals for the entire year you should break them into smaller goals which not only seems more real and achievable but also boosts your focus and motivates you to work harder. Break your goals into months and than into weeks.
Duration for Goals
In my example I set a goal for 20 authority blogs and though it is not impossible, thinking that this feat is achievable in under 10 months was even a bigger mistake. What happened ? Procrastination.
Set goals but more importantly give yourself some time. Rome was not built in a day. Most people face this problem. Can you count the number of times when a task took longer than you expected ? This is you under estimating the time that goal needed. What happened ? You rushed and didnt do the job right. Using action programs and scheduling goals can greatly help. Plan ahead and take your time. Dont rush into making bad decisions.
Not Celebrating Failures
This is different and I may not be able to explain it properly but you need to celebrate not only your successes but also your failures. Accept it and move along. Let it pass. Learn from your mistakes and make sure you dont repeat it.
In fact you should learn to appreciate your failures. Every mistake that you make teaches you something valuable. Appreciate the fact that you learned something only because you made that mistake. Otherwise you would have never learned it. Failures = Lessons and experience is all that matters in the end.
Thats it for today. Hope you guys will take a cue from this and not repeat my mistakes. I really dont have time to edit this post to make it look and read better or more beautiful for you but I guess you get the gist.
